Josh Richter

Josh Richter, PGA Senior Vice President of Golf Operations at Boyne Resorts, has been honored as the Golf Executive of the Year by the Michigan PGA Section. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional service in the golf industry through leadership in multi-facility management, operations, allied associations, or executive leadership. Recipients must demonstrate outstanding leadership, vision, and significant service to the PGA and the game of golf.

Richter’s career with Boyne Resorts began in 1999 as an intern while attending the PGM Golf Management program at Ferris State University. In his current role, he oversees all operations for BOYNE Golf’s 14 courses across the country, including:

  • Three courses at Bay Harbor Golf Club and Crooked Tree Golf Club
  • Five at The Highlands, including the new Doon Brae par-three course
  • Two at Boyne Mountain
  • Sunday River Golf Club and Sugarloaf Golf Club in Maine
  • Big Sky Golf Course in Montana

His responsibilities include managing numerous annual golf events such as the Michigan Section’s Tournament of Champions, Adidas State Pro-Am, and Drive, Chip & Putt local qualifiers. He also serves as president of club operations for the Country Club of Boyne and Bay Harbor Golf Club.

Throughout his tenure, Richter has been dedicated to developing golf professionals, hiring 40 PGM students for internships at BOYNE Golf. Many of these students have advanced to become general managers, head professionals, golf academy business owners, and leaders throughout the industry. His team-building approach was featured in a “Best Practices” article in PGA Magazine’s September 2018 issue.

“This is a tremendous honor and very humbling to be selected as the 2025 Michigan PGA Executive of the Year, especially with so many great operators within the Michigan PGA Section,” Richter said. “This award is a testament to the great staff we have in the golf division, who played a huge part in why I was selected for this award. I want to thank them and the PGA Special Awards Committee for recognizing us with this award.”

Beyond his work at BOYNE Golf, Richter serves as Board President of First Tee – Northern Michigan since January 2024, sits on the America’s Summer Golf Capital Board, and plays a key role in the annual Harbor Cup event, which has raised over $1 million for local charities since 1997. He is also a member of the Michigan PGA Employment Committee, helping advance the careers of PGA Professionals throughout Michigan.
